I reblog. I'd like to write, but mostly I reblog.

Yuri’s Night

I challenged myself to write a hundred word story on the spot. I failed and went over, but whatever.

Yuri’s Night.

“NOSTROVIA!” A third of the room tossed back vodka shots while the rest reeled contentedly in various stages of inebriation. Steve winced as the raw liquid burned between his teeth.

“Better not hurl comrade,” said Liu from beneath an oversized and hastily rendered epoxy cosmonaut helmet “do not dishonour the brave potatoes that sacrificed themselves for tonight’s celebration.”

Steve pushed down the helmet’s visor and grabbed her by the shoulders.

“T-Minus Ten!” he yelled, and Andrej staggered over to assist him in spinning her around as their colleagues joined in on the countdown.

“…Four, Three, Two, One!” Liu launched unsteadily across the lounge before tripping over an occupied sofa and tumbling onto the floor. She flung the helmet off and puked conspicuously on all fours in front of the observation window, the curved shadow of the Earth rotating steadily behind her.

With the development of GPS controlled drones, far-reaching cheap radio equipment and tiny new computers like the Raspberry Pi, we’re going to experiment with sending out some small drones that will float some kilometers up in the air. This way our machines will have to be shut down with aeroplanes in order to shut down the system. A real act of war.

We’re just starting so we haven’t figured everything out yet. But we can’t limit ourselves to hosting things just on land anymore. These Low Orbit Server Stations (LOSS) are just the first attempt. With modern radio transmitters we can get over 100Mbps per node up to 50km away. For the proxy system we’re building, that’s more than enough.

TV Show Promo of the Day: Straight from Nickelodeon’s upfront to your eyeballs, it’s a brand new supertrailer for the network’s hotly anticipated Avatar sequel, which is now being called simply The Legend of Korra.

But wait, there’s more: After much back-and-forth, the official, for-real-this-time premiere date of episode 1 has been revealed: Saturday, April 14th @ 11 AM ET.
